A Fun Way to Document Special Stories!

Today, I’m excited to share my latest project featuring the January ‘Best Friends’ kit and how I used it to create this fun layout documenting our story of how we met.

The January kit is full of fun, colourful elements that instantly inspire creativity. This month’s kit focused on themes of love and memories, which was perfect for documenting the moment in my life when I met Jack. Although the photo is actually from our first holiday together but I found it in an envelope and wanted to use it here.

Creating this scrapbook layout was such a joy! Here’s how I approached it:

  • Step 1: Choosing the Photo
I began by selecting a meaningful photo to feature in my layout. This picture of me and my partner was perfect for a page focused on love and special moments. The colors of our outfits and the overall mood of the photo fit perfectly with the kit’s pastel tones.

  • Step 2: Planning the Design
I wanted the layout to have a playful and dynamic feel, so I played around with the placement of the photo, stickers, and journaling spaces. I decided to use a mix of arrows, hearts, and bold phrases like “Look Here” and “I Love You” to draw attention and create movement across the page.

  • Step 3: Embellishing
Next, I added the decorative elements! The kit came with various fun embellishments like hearts, little tags, and patterned papers. I layered these elements to create visual interest, making sure to highlight key areas of the layout. The little details, like the “Our Story” and “Remember” tags, really made the page feel personal.

  • Step 4: Journaling
Finally, I added some journaling. I kept it short and sweet, reflecting on the significance of the moment captured in the photo. The pink “Remember” label was perfect for writing a brief memory that I wanted to cherish. My journalling I like to keep private too so I added that after I photographed the layout.

If you’re struggling to get started or want some tips:

  • Play with Layers: Don’t be afraid to overlap elements to create depth and interest. Mixing different textures, like paper and fabric, can add a unique touch.

  • Embrace Color: Start with a primary and secondary colour. You don’t have to match everything perfectly—let the colours flow together naturally! Pick up on hints of colour from your photographs or ephemera.

I hope my scrapbook layout has inspired you to create something special of your own! What’s your favourite way to scrapbook? Let me know in the comments, or share your scrapbook layouts with me on social media! Happy crafting!
