Mixed Media Canvas with Vicki

.
Hiya, Today I’m sharing a small mixed media canvas that I’ve made using the April ‘Secret Garden’ kit.  If you haven’t ordered yours yet you’re missing in on so many treats but there’s still time to order yours from here.
There are probably a few people who do Mixed Media properly that will cringe at this but I really enjoy the freeness of it and not having to overly think about the final product.
I also don’t have a huge amount of craft supplies so just use a few of the cheap bits I already have along with my Lollipop kit.

The canvas I used was one I picked up for 50p a few months ago.  I started with some kids PVA glue and covered the whole thing with torn pieces of the tissue paper, packaging bags and the book page.  The book page is lovely when you’re able to see the text through the paint layers.

Once that was dry I looked out some of my stencils, I chose two of the leaf ones from previous kits.  Lisa has them all listed individually here if you missed out on earlier kits but would still like the stencils.  I’ve used texture paste through the stencils and while it was still drying added some of the green watercolour paint and some pink I had already.

I ripped some strips from the fabric and stained it with some coffee.  I’ve frayed some of the edges for a bit more texture and glued them on.  I went back over some areas with more texture paste and paint.  I’ve just used my finger so I could do it roughly.  I left that layer to dry overnight so the fabric had time to stick properly.

I popped all the tags and vintage stamp stickers on. I’ve used the Wild and Free from the cut apart postcard but if I had thought about it first I might have made it bigger to replace the tag.  I used the thread from the DIY kit to tie bows in the top of the tags and covered the leaf die cuts with the same paints and stapled them together in the top corner.

Finally I used a few stamps and my white, gold and black markers to add a few more details.
I hope this helps you begin a mixed media project.  It really is so much fun watching the levels build.
