Junk Journal by Terri

Today I’m back on the blog with my second project using the Gather Together kit. For this project I used an old hardback secondhand book to create a journal. I took some inspiration from Lisa’s YouTube videos to give me a few ideas.

I gathered together some tags, mixed media cardstock from my stash and the patterned papers from the kit to use for the signature inside the journal. I didn’t have enough of the orange ribbon to use as the binding. So pulled out some neutral ribbon from my stash. I then carefully removed the pages from inside the book using a craft knife.

Once I had removed the inside of the book I wanted to decorate the cover. Using Gel medium to ensure the layers of the book cover are well adhered and unlikely to come loose.

I layered together the orange polka dot page from the kit and a piece of book paper to create the base of my book cover. I added the pink pompom trim down the lefthand side of the paper. This creates depth and texture. Then I made a corner cluster similar to that on my previous art journal page using the fabric leaf, stamped tag, diecuts and stickers.

I finished the cover off with splatters of gold acrylic ink and the word journal created on my DYMO.

I then folded all the pieces of card, patterned paper, tags etc… in half. This created the internal signature and simply tied the ribbon around the book spine. I want to be able to remove these pages to create on at a later date if I wish.

Thanks for joining me on the blog, don’t forget to check out the facebook group for more inspiration. We also love to see your creations so please share those with us.

Happy Crafting!
