Rainbow Layout – by Guest Designer, Monique

Hi Lollipop Friends!

I’m excited to share my second project using the lovely ‘My Small World’ kit. This one is a scrapbook layout, inspired by the pretty colours in the kit and one little phrase sticker! As soon as I saw the ‘sing-a-long’ sticker, I knew I wanted to use it to document my children’s School Summer Sing-A-Long from last year.

I started off by selecting a variety of mini Distress Ink pads that coordinate with all the lovely colours in the kit, sequencing them in rainbow order. The colours I used are Saltwater Taffy; Squeezed Lemonade; Cracked Pistachio; Salvaged Patina; Shaded Lilac; and Worn Lipstick. Using a sheet of A4 watercolour card as my base, I swiped each ink pad down the page, from top to bottom. Once complete, I used a wet paintbrush to blend the colours together, giving a watercolour effect. While the background dried, I used the gorgeous house stencil from this month’s collaboration  with Peartree Cutfiles  to create a row of rainbow houses.  Using the same Distress Ink colours as the background, I dabbed colour through the stencil so that each house was a different colour. I then used the stencil insert to create the doors and windows and finally added a light grey pen outline to each house. I repeated this process twice so that I had 6 little houses in total.

With my rainbow houses as a focal point, I then tucked a lovely vellum pocket from the kit behind them. One of my favourites in the ‘My Small World’ box is a sweet sunburst tag, which was perfect for popping into the pocket – I really love how the vellum allows the sunburst, and background colours to shine through. I used a strip of the pretty fabric from the kit, stapled to the top of the tag. I was careful to use the portion of fabric that matched the colours of the background, for a tone on tone effect. I backed my photo using the kit grid paper and tucked it behind the rest of the colourful houses.

I wanted to add some clouds for a bit of whimsy so selected the large polka dot patterned paper and drew three clouds and then cut them out. I distressed and inked the edges to match the background colours, added some glittery shimmer before adding white hand stitching around each cloud. I used the lovely pink tickets, stamped with a few details of the sing-a-long event and tucked them under the pink stencilled house, continuing my tone on tone rainbow colour scheme. I added in 3 sweet text phrase stickers, along with a few pretty ephemera pieces from the kit. I fussy cut tiny bunting from one of the patterned papers and draped it across the top of my photo. Lastly, I added a title, a few stars and sequins from my stash and a machine stitched border.

I hope my layout has inspired a new idea or two and that you have been enjoying the lovely ‘My Small World’ kit as much as I have. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Much love,

Monique 💗
