It’s Friday! Treat Yourself – Banana & Chocolate Marble Cake

Nothing quite like a yummy treat to start off the weekend.

I have adapted a really old recipe that I’ve been using since I was a child. It’s good ol’ Banana Bread. I use it so often. No one eats the bananas once they go yellow in this house, so in to the banana bread they go! It’s great for the kid’s school lunches and after school snacks too. I thought I would have a go at jazzing it up a little though and this is what I’ve come up with.

Banana & chocolate marble cake.

Here’s what you will need to bake one in a regular loaf tin.

200g Self Raising Flour

50g Marg or butter

1 Egg

1 Ripe banana

A good tablespoon or Nutella

A little Milk

Set your oven to 180C / 350F / Gas4

Start by mixing up the flour and marg in a bowl so it resembles breadcrumbs, then add the egg, sugar and mix well. If it’s a little dry, add the splash of milk.

Now separate the batter in to two bowls.

Mash the banana and mix in with one bowl.

Mix the Nutella in to the other. You will have one bowl of banana cake batter and the other with a chocolate batter.

Grease a loaf tin and layer up the cake mix, give it a swirl in the tin to blend the 2 colours. Don’t over swirl though.

Now bake for 35-45 mins until it’s well risen and golden brown on top and firm to touch.

When you cut in to it you should see the lovely marble effect.

I hope you enjoy your yummy cake.

I often double up the quantities and bake 2 at the same time and pop one in the freezer.

Have a great weekend. Lisa x
